Unichain is Uniswap's Ethereum Layer 2, built on a general-purpose L2 stack within the Superchain, concentrating Uniswap liquidity on a dedicated chain. It targets trading on general L2s constrained by block times, fragmented cross-chain liquidity, and centralized sequencers and validators.
The mechanism uses roughly 200 ms sub-blocks, trusted-execution-assisted block building, and has added permissionless fault proofs so state can be challenged from Layer 1, with part of sequencer revenue returned to the ecosystem. On October 9, 2026 it announced a move to Optimism's enterprise offering, completing the mainnet switch on October 29. The difficulty for dedicated chains is that general L2s are already cheap, so the value of the move depends on whether apps follow and whether sequencer revenue covers the cost of running independently.
