Sei is a trading-oriented high-performance Layer1 that introduced parallelized EVM after mainnet and moved fully to an EVM-only architecture via community proposal SIP-3, targeting DeFi, gaming and high-frequency applications. It tackles the insufficient throughput and slow finality of general chains on order-book-style apps by processing independent transactions with a parallel execution engine. Its technology includes parallelized EVM with execution and storage engine optimizations and components paving the way for the Giga upgrade, aiming for 200,000 TPS and sub-400-millisecond finality.
On August 7, 2026, Sei completed its v6.6 mainnet upgrade, launching the Ares execution engine and Eidos storage engine as the foundation for Giga. Its trade-off is that about 30 percent of supply remains under a multi-year vesting schedule while TVL has clearly fallen from its historical peak, and the tension between ecosystem growth and token-release pacing remains its main competitive boundary.

On July 31, 2026 Sei disabled outbound IBC transfers under SIP-3 (proposal 121, after 116 and 120 closed inbound), CosmWasm stopped accepting new deployments, and the network converged on an EVM-only stack. A mandatory v6.6 upgrade executed at block height 224,201,091 on August 4, activating the first phase of the Ares execution path and the first step of the Eidos storage migration, moving EVM state into its own database and cutting a cleanup pass from 8-18 minutes to about five.
Giga whitepaper v2.0 appeared on June 29 with sub-250ms finality, Sedna private transaction dissemination and a post-quantum path; v6.7 executed at block 236,450,000 on October 8 (proposal 125), stripping legacy IBC and CosmWasm code and shipping the governance trigger for the memIAVL-to-FlatKV migration, which a separate proposal then starts. SEI traded near $0.070 around the upgrade with about $33.5 million in chain TVL; the Autobahn consensus testnet targets 200,000 TPS and 400ms finality.
Sei Network subtracted rather than added: SIP-3 removed hundreds of thousands of lines of code, stopped new CosmWasm deployments and closed outbound IBC on 31 July after inbound was closed under proposals 116 and 120, collapsing two virtual machines into EVM only, at the cost of Cosmos cross-chain distribution and a set of contracts that must be rewritten. The trade assumes Cosmos interoperability had near-zero option value while EVM liquidity matters more. Giga's 200,000 TPS and 400ms finality have to be read against rivals' schedules, since Monad shipped first at 10,000 TPS, MegaETH claims above 100,000 and Solana already runs 65,000 TPS at 400ms, so Sei's edge is upgrading in place without a chain migration plus the predictable ordering of bounded MEV. The test is whether the public testnet turns theoretical figures into reproducible benchmarks before incumbents price the performance story.
