Major progress: In July SNS publicly endorsed the Solana Foundation's ICANN application for the .sol gTLD; in August a registration pause and eligibility snapshot were scheduled for the .sol upgrade, with existing holders expected to receive paired .sns and .sol domains ahead of SRS activation in late 2026 or early 2027.
Unlocks & incentives: The 26.25% ecosystem allocation unlocks linearly through 2029, with about 2.5 billion of 10 billion tokens circulating; SNS payments for domain registration carry a 5% discount, and the 2026 roadmap makes SNS the native payment option across the marketplace.
SNS announced the .sol upgrade in August 2026, completed a snapshot on August 17, is gradually migrating domain suffixes to .sns and launched the new .sol on SRS; in July it filed an ICANN .sol gTLD application and simultaneously shipped Marketplace V2, AI search and SNS token payments.
Future strategy and roadmap: SNS plans to keep advancing the .sol-to-.sns migration and the ICANN gTLD rollout, expand Marketplace V2 and AI search, and deepen domain-ecosystem applications around SNS token payments.
