Bitnomial is a Chicago-based crypto derivatives group holding three CFTC-regulated licenses at once: a designated contract market, a derivatives clearing organization and a futures commission merchant. Leveraged spot, perpetuals, futures, options and event contracts share one order book and one clearing pool, with bitcoin, ether, XRP and other digital assets posted as margin and settlement made in the underlying asset, so US clients do not have to split positions across offshore venues. Clearing runs on a central counterparty model in which clearing members absorb default losses, and collateral is haircut at 15% to 25% per commodity with notional limits attached.
Botanical is the unified trading front end. Institutions connect through clearing members such as Wedbush, Marex and R.J. O'Brien, while retail users must open a separate verified account with a futures commission merchant. Compared with offshore perpetual venues, it trades a narrower product set for regulated contracts and crypto settlement: listed instruments are limited to approved crypto commodities and event contracts, leverage tops out near 6x, and new listings must pass self-certification or approval, a slower path than unlicensed platforms follow.

Bitnomial bundles exchange and clearinghouse fees, charging $0.07 per side to Participants and $0.10 to Non-Participants on Bitcoin Complex and Crypto Complex products.
Bitnomial charges $0.0007 per side per contract to Participants and $0.0010 to Non-Participants on products that specify a Minimum Contract Size.
Bitnomial charges 2 bps per side on Spot Complex products.
In 2020 the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission designated Bitnomial Exchange a contract market for physically settled bitcoin futures and options; in December 2023 it registered Bitnomial's clearinghouse as a derivatives clearing organisation; a third unit is a futures commission merchant.
