Hemi is a modular Layer2 combining Bitcoin security with Ethereum programmability, whose hVM embeds a full Bitcoin node inside the EVM so contracts read UTXO and block-header state without bridges or oracles, while Proof-of-Proof anchors Hemi's state back to Bitcoin. Positioned for BTCFi with over 90 integrated protocols, Hemi binds security and incentives through veHEMI governance and hemiStake, using a PoP points system to record contributions; PoP periodically writes Hemi's block-header digests into Bitcoin so BTCFi assets can settle with Bitcoin finality, as a Bitcoin-native DeFi sidechain rather than a general rollup.
In September 2026 Hemi launched its reworked hemiStake and began distributing retroactive rewards from October, yet its trade-off is a deep disconnect between HEMI's price and on-chain TVL, with the Bitcoin institutionalization strategy and new ZK proving marketplace still to be proven.

In March 2026 Warsaw-listed BTCS committed up to 100 BTC to Hemi's liquidity programme, with backstopped yields of 10% for the first two months and 6% for the following four, paid in BTC and USDC, one of the first publicly disclosed EU-regulated bitcoin yield deals executed through a Bitcoin layer-2. DefiLlama recorded on-chain DeFi TVL of only about $1.23 million on October 17, far below the official figure. The second quarter brought the V2 network upgrade with an improved PoP algorithm and a protocol-owned liquidity treasury; hemiStake launched with 250 million HEMI for baseline incentives and team and investor allocations unlocking linearly over two years from September 19; hBitVM, Fast Track and the Chainbuilder shared sequencer are set to add fee sources. Future strategy and roadmap: Engineering proceeds in order through FastTrack, the op-reth conversion and Oxygen, hBitVM, the decentralized sequencer, the decentralized publisher and the Chain Builder roadmap: once Oxygen lands the whole network can be proven with ZK and settle to Ethereum, with the ZK miner and ZK marketplace opening to public testnet testing first. On the product side, Hemi is working with Derive, STS Digital and Lagoon Finance on the first hemiBTC options vault running a debt-financed call overwriting strategy at a 6% target APY, planned as the opening piece of a broader structured product suite.
