AFX is a purpose-built high-performance Layer 1 for derivatives, centred on perpetual futures: matching and liquidation happen on chain, the team claims sub-100-millisecond finality, leverage reaches 100x and margin is denominated in USDC. User assets move in through a custodial bridge from Arbitrum, accounts support email login and session keys to reduce signing friction, and liquidity providers can deposit into vaults to earn fees. It targets the trade-off between centralised exchange speed and on-chain self-custody.
Running its own chain lets the team optimise execution for an order book, but it concentrates risk in the bridge and sequencer. Mainnet launched in June 2026 and did about $710 million in volume over 36 days, with leverage later raised to 100x; on 22 July the custodial bridge was attacked and roughly $24.15 million in USDC was moved out, an incident on-chain analysts attributed to a North Korea-linked group, and in August the team began white-hat returns and user remediation. Custody remains the main attack surface, so compensation progress and the bridge rebuild deserve tracking.
